Blithe Spirit
A drawing room comedy, ghost story, and romance!

A LOVE STORY THAT TRANSCENDS SPACE AND TIME

Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit is a timeless comedy which finds Charles Condomine and his new wife, Ruth, meeting up with Madame Arcati, a local (yet world-renown…?) medium who has been called to unwittingly serve as the inspiration for Charles’ new novel. When Arcati’s powers prove to be quite real, the ghost of Charles’ former (read: defunct) wife, Elvira, is materialized into the Condomine’s house, where Charles is caught in the middle of the two women he loves. As Elvira’s hauntings become more and more comically violent against both Ruth and Charles, they desperately seek the help of Arcati to exorcise their house of this unwanted spirit but her powers prove….unstable….resulting in more hijinx that could lead to one or more deaths (comically, of course).

ABOUT BLITHE SPIRIT

Trust Your Gut Productions' fourth Fulton County production was a revival of Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit, which shirked the play’s normal early 20th century setting for the high energy, opulent and over-the-top fashions, and chain-smoking of the 1980’s. TYGP’s production of Blithe Spirit also focused more on the love story between Charles and his deceased wife, Elvira, giving a deep, emotional center to a piece that is often looked at as a light, fluffy farce. The production once again expanded the cast size and diversity of TYGP’s endeavors, and was exceptionally well-received by community and audience members.
